This week I am featuring two posts from the MarketFriday event initiated by @dswigle. Denise has been doing this for a couple of years on steem, and it is always interesting to see various markets from around the world.
I have been featuring my fellow freewriters for this @pifc curation contest entry. But this week, before I could get to looking at freewrites, I stumbled onto these two posts while entering my own Market Friday post, and decided I was done! So let’s look at a couple of places you can spend money if you happen to get to these areas in your travels.
My first choice is from:
- @joanstewart
- Rep 62
with a market from South Africa

Joan always has wonderful posts with great photos in her work and shows us so much from her country. This post is no exception and is the furthest thing you can think of to a regular store.
Joan shows us an open air market with handmade crafts, food, juice, restaurants and areas to relax. It looks like a great place to wile away the hours. I really love the colors and layout of this market and I would love to have one or more of the baskets.
My second choice comes from:
- @gingbabida
- Rep 56
with her durian fruit market from Davos City in The Philippines.

I live in SE Asia now and am well acquainted with durian. It has an odor you will never forget. The flesh is somewhat like pudding and I like it. The taste is much less strong than the smell.
@gingbabida shows us some roadside sellers with very inexpensive prices compared to what I have seen in other places. It pays off to go to the source! We also get to see some other unusual fruits of SE Asia in this post. I have tried most of them and can recommend!
Here is the call for entry post for this @pifc contest:
