My grandson was super excited today as he dragged me out of the house and down the garden to look at a sleeping Bumble Bee.
We are used to seeing busy Bee's floating around the flowers collecting nectar and pollen but to see one taking a much needed mid day kip (sleep) was amazing to my grandson and me to be honest.
I never knew that Bee's would just take a nap during their seemingly constant and busy days? So how can you tell if a bee is sleeping?
It turns out that when a bee is in deep sleep, their antennae droop downwards, the upper body (thorax) drops as does the tip of the abdomen (or tail), and the wings rest on the body. Look closely, and you can see this in the images below.
Not so busy Bee!
Like all things in nature we can learn a lot from observing and copying their example. Sometimes sleeping is just the right thing to do.
Bears and many other animals hibernate during the bleak winter months when food and other things are hard to find.
Bee taking a break!
Instead of worrying about where the next bit of nectar or pollen will come from. Just take a step back and relax. The nectar will still be there when you wake up. There will always be work to be done.
Busy Bee back to work

Finally looking up. Oftentimes things are seen through the lens of our own biases. The clouds in the sky bring water for the flowers which helps the Bee's also the clouds are in a beautiful blue sky.
Do you focus on the temporary but beautiful clouds or the blue sky beyond? Or do you enjoy both equally? #newsteem #newthinking
