I have been told a million times that I would be a joy to my mother even when I always saw the opposite. For so many reasons and none, I would act out and often made her miserable. I should be ashamed to admit that I was a problem child but I am not. Maybe because that part of my past was also a part of me. The truth is you do not have to. Your parents have lived their lives and as many would say, they were obligated to provide and be there for you without expectations. You never asked to be brought into this world, did you? They just brought you out. Why though?

Back in the day, I used to heae my parents and their friends talk about their children. They would all say to each other "Yang batang yan ang mag aahon sa amin sa kahirapan." (That kid will save us from poverty.) I can see them agreeing woth each othet, all of them has the samenidea about their children. Then we all grew up. As soon as I graduated college, I was expected to look for a job that would sustain all the needs of the family. I had a different plan. Since I had to work so that I could finish college while helping my sibs with their studies as well, I wanted to take a break. And that I did. I left my job at the fastfood.

Nowadays, some parents pass on to their kids the family responsibility after they graduate from school. I think this is something that has been happening for a long time now; it's not a nowadays thing. Also, the responsibility can be in the form of taking care of the elderly, running the family business, or managing their finances. This is an important part of their development and can help them become well-rounded individuals and that's understandable. However, I feel it is important to ensure that the responsibility is balanced with other activities such as pursuing a career, gaining new skills, and having some time for leisure. Too much responsibility can lead to burnout and leave the individual feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated.

Money is always a sensitive issue in my family, or maybe at least for me. My family isn't rich, we have enough, so when I finished college, my father kept saying he didn't have to work anymore because it's time for me to pay back what was given to me. Was it a joke? I wasn't entirely sure because he kept repeating the same thing every time. Back story. My father didn't have a proper job but he's doing his best to provide for the family. He owned a small business, rented the space for it but not entirely earning well. The pay was just enough to put food on our table and give us allowance for school. My mother wasn't living with us and at that time, she was nursing my grandparents who were sick. She didn't have income but she had savings at least, also from my grandparent's inheritance probably. Even when she's far away, she would send money for our needs.
