Yezi’tra, Yezi’im – A’mara Complex

Moxara awoke in the morning, still snuggled next to Benjan. She stroked his smooth chest lovingly. She was pretty sure she had conceived overnight, but that didn’t cause her any worry now. She felt secure with Benjan.

“Are you still scared?” he asked softly.

“Only to lose you,” Moxara replied.

“I’m yours as long as the gods preserve us,” he said. “Mortality is unavoidable. But I choose to be with you as long as I can.”

“What shall we do?” she asked softly.

“About what?”

“About us?” Moxara asked looking at him. “I tink you give me child.”

“I felt it too,” Benjan said, kissing her. “I meant it when I said that I choose to be with you as long as I can. But what do you want to do?”

She wasn’t sure what to say. She felt inexplicably shy again, then embarrassed that she was so completely out of character. “Yezi’tra is not home,” she replied at last.

“It can be,” he said. “But you mean Varkevand. What if we traded back and forth? A year or two here and a year or two there… we can have the best of both countries.”

“I like dat,” Moxara said, putting her head on his chest.

“You said there is a wedding at Vestharya, right?” he confirmed.

“Yes. Alyona and Tamryn been wanting to marry for couple years now. Der parents said to wait little longer if dey could,” Moxara said. “Everyone from Varkevand come from what Kivana said. Even my chola. I miss her.”

“Let’s add to it then,” Benjan said.

“What?”

“We can get married too. What do you think?” he said.

Moxara smiled. “Yes, Benjan. I like dat very much.”

“Well, that’s settled then,” he said smiling back, kissing her some more. “I wanted to talk to you about something else as well.”

“Okay?” she asked as he traced his finger around her body in intricate patterns.

“CC Uushin wants to employ you as one of his advisers. He asked for you personally after the first meeting we had,” Benjan said.

“I not know what to say,” she said. “Dat is huge task, is not?”

“Probably not as big as you fear. He doesn’t have that many dilemmas to be fair, but what he does have, he’d like to have your opinion on. He knows that you won’t shy away from what you think just because of who he is. He likes that. It’s a great honor he has bestowed on you.”

Moxara found more tears in her eyes. “I cry so much since being wid you! I never used to cry.”

He held her close. “Perhaps it’s all the tears that you’ve wanted to shed for so many years – now they’re all rushing out whenever they can find the excuse,” he said kissing her tenderly. “Can I tell the Chief Councilor that you will advise him?”

“You not tink my bad Common Tongue will get in way?” Moxara asked.

“It doesn’t get in the way with me,” Benjan said. “I understand everything you tell me. Will you serve CC Uushin with me?”

Moxara nodded. “It is honor to assist him when he needs oder opinions.”

“Good, because I believe he wants to meet with us for lunch today,” Benjan said. “We need to find a path to peace. Do you have any new ideas?”

Moxara shook her head.

“I suppose we’d better get dressed for the day, huh?” Benjan suggested.

Moxara nodded with a smile. “I need to get tings from my room.”

“Your old room. You’re staying here now, right?” Benjan reminded.

“Yes,” she smiled again.

Benjan’s PCS link buzzed.

“Yes, Chief Councilor?” Benjan greeted.

“Chief Yth’n has died,” the grief-stricken voice informed.

“We will be right there,” Benjan promised.

“Thank you,” the man replied.

“Are you ready for your first assignment as his adviser?” Benjan asked Moxara.

“Yes,” she said, understanding the gravity of the situation. Suddenly, she had a thought. “I have idea.”

“What?”

“We take Yt’n’s sons to Vestharya. We have dem meet Zley, who are always at Vestharya. We have social time togeder. If der is any way to peace between dem, is friendship.”

“It’s worth a shot,” Benjan said. “We have plenty of time to discuss it though – like after Yth’n’s been buried and after his other son has been found.”

“Wid respect, my love. We might need discuss it sooner. Vestharya is very soon now,” Moxara said.

“We will,” he said, taking her arm. “I will figure out when to bring it up, okay?”

Moxara was almost surprised to see the tear-streaked face of the normally-composed Chief Councilor as they joined him in his quarters.

At first he looked at Benjan and spoke in a tongue she did not understand.

“Common Tongue out of courtesy of your new adviser,” Benjan requested gently.

“I’m sorry, Adviser,” the Chief Councilor said, looking at her. “I was just telling Benjan that I have known Yth’n since we were both young boys. I have lost a brother today.”

“Am sorry, Chief Councilor,” she said quietly. “Is always hard to lose dose dearest to us.”

“Please just call me Haldi when we’re in private. Your name again?”

“Yes, Haldi. I am Moxara,” she replied.

“You have bonded with Benjan. I am pleased,” he said looking at her carefully. “It helps me through my grief knowing this.”

She looked at Benjan.

“Most of our tribes are leya-sensitive enough for that,” he replied with a shrug and a smile.

“Moxara, you need to know that I’ve known Benjan since he was a baby. He feels like a son to me, so knowing that he has a young one on the way is a great comfort to me,” Haldi explained. “I wish to give you a hug like the daughter that I lost years ago.”

Moxara gave the man a hug.

“You stay with Benjan, Moxara. He will keep you safe as long as there is breath in him,” Haldi said to her.

“She had an idea that might manage to bring peace,” Benjan said.

“Yth’n’s final message to his son Arzewt was to make peace. I would hear your suggestion, Moxara,” Haldi said.
