Injustice 2 got me fighting - Batman vs Superman as I like to see

Once there was a time when fighters were the leading games in the competitive circuit. In terms of sales figures, games such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken were outright blockbusters. Unfortunately, nowadays it is different and there are only a handful of games in the genre every year. The games we serve are fortunately often the level that we are used to from fighters. Similarly, Injustice 2.

No ge-button-bash

With the second part in the series developer NetherRealm Studios, known from the Mortal Kombat series, builds on the basis that was laid with the surprisingly good Injustice: Gods Among Us. The story is like this: Batman and Superman disagree with each other about how villains must pay fine for their actions. According to Superman, a safer world can only be achieved by making the bad guys a cup smaller, while Batman strongly opposes it. This fact alone promises much good and that is exactly what you can expect from Injustice 2.

After a fairly extensive tutorial you start a spectacular singleplayer, in which the story, the cutscenes and the battles are strongly interwoven, something we still see too little in today's fighters. Although I play few fighting games because I simply do not want to invest enough time to become really good, Injustice 2 invites more than other fighters to continue. This is mainly due to two essential aspects of the game: the extensive tutorial and strong single player experience.

Admittedly, the tutorial is somewhat on the long side, but manages to give players the necessary knowledge to be able to play with the game. The single player makes it complete by having players play with as many characters as possible. In this way you get a good idea of what characters can do and which fits best with your playing style.

I caught myself that I was almost never button-bashing, which is a first in a fighting game for me. In comparison with other fighters, I also feel that I have much more control over the course of fighting in Injustice 2. Incidentally, the story is to be enjoyed and you get to know different DC characters who may be slightly underexposed in the films and TV series.

Flawless multiplayer

In addition to the fantastic single player, Injustice 2 also contains enough content to keep players sweet for months. The Multiverse mode is an example of this. In this mode, players can take on daily challenges to level their characters and gain better equipment to take on even more challenging challenges. There are also lootboxes in the game, but rest assured: what comes out of these lootboxes does not yield gameplay advantages. In that respect it is comparable to the system in Overwatch. NetherRealm Studios also deserves a pat on the back for the flawless multiplayer experience. During my play sessions, I did not suffer from lag or input-delay. In all those pots that I got a lot of it was therefore completely my own fault.

Injustice 2 can compete with the best. The gameplay is very layered, the levels are worked out to perfection and the story is breathtaking. The fact that it is still happening in the DC universe is, in my opinion, the icing on the cake. Despite the favorable reviews, it feels as if Injustice 2 was snowed under by other major releases in the spring. If you have let Injustice 2 pass you then there is no better period than early spring to win the game for a nice price. A must-have for every serious fighting game lover, but also accessible enough for gamers who occasionally want to beat their friends together... in-game of course.
