Karaoke games have been around for years. Singstar , Lips and Band Hero are just examples of well-known franchises in which we sing the lungs out of our bodies. For some time, Let's Sing has also been included in this list, a franchise from publisher Deep Silver. Now it's time for the 2018 edition of the game, Let's Sing 2018 , which also comes out on the Switch.

Wired microphones?

With that Switch version of the game we went to work and we immediately noticed when packaging was unpacked. The game of about 60 euros comes with two wired microphones. In itself that is a great package that is also delivered in the other versions of the game. But the fact that the microphones are wired is a bit crazy at a console that has as a slogan that you can play anywhere and anytime: wirelessly.

At Let's Sing 2018 that kite does not stop. The microphones are connected to the holder of the Switch and not to the console itself. You can not play on the road. You can not start the game during a friend's evening at someone else unless you take the whole console with you.

If you have the PlayStation 4 version of the game, you can also get started with an app on your phone, which changes it into the microphone, but it does not support the Switch version. You are really dependent on the wired microphones. A big mistake.

Once you are used to the fact that there is a cable between you and the console, the fun can begin. As soon as you start the game you will see a clear and sleek menu, in which you can choose the various options of the game.

Different modes

There are a total of four modes in Let's Sing 2018, namely Classic, Mix Tape, Featuring and TV in this menu, along with an option menu. In the latter you can view your profile and change your avatar. The sound and such is not adjustable in Let's Sing 2018, but that is actually not necessary. After all, you have your TV and home cinema set for that.

The design of the game is very simple so that everyone can get to work without thinking. You connect the microphone, choose a mode and start singing. And that with pretty short loading times. Let's Sing 2018 is perfectly set up in this respect and does exactly what you expect from a karaoke game.

The Classic mode is the standard mode that you simply sing along with a song, while the video clip plays in the background and the text rolls across the screen. This mode can only be played or competitive with another player. The goal in the latter case is to score as high as possible so that you beat the other player. The TV mode is actually the same as the Classic mode with the difference that you do not see the text.

In features you and another player alternate by singing parts of a song in a duet. We have seen this before in other games. The original element of Let's Sing 2018 is the Mix Tape mode. In this, pieces of the 30 tracks are mixed together so that you always get a surprise when you start a song.

Scary number

This mode ensures that you keep playing over and over again because a song always runs differently. The only disadvantage is that Let's Sing 2018 only contains 30 numbers. And you are so ready with it, in any mode. For the PlayStation 4 you can buy additional tracks later on, but on the Switch you have to do it with the 30 included tracks.

The tracks that are included are quite diverse. You get classics like We Are the Champions by Queen and Imagine by John Lennon for you, while you can also sing newer songs like Royals van Lorde and 7 Years by Lukas Graham.

The songs can also be listened to via the Jukebox of the game so you can get used to the rhythms and lyrics. This mode is, certainly with the Switch version that we tested, somewhat unnecessary, but still a nice addition.

Let's Sing 2018 review - offers little value for money.

Let's Sing 2018 is a fun game when it comes to modes when you have some people on the floor and want to test each other's singing talents. You get 30 songs that are alternating and four modes to sing them in. But you're pretty quick with it since you've seen the 30 numbers quickly and there is no possibility of expansion (on the Switch).

The game is well organized and the included microphones do what they have to do, although it is illogical that they are not wireless. The tone that hits Let's Sing 2018 is fine, but the game feels like a prematurely canceled concert.
