Introduction

This week some writing about the rule set Going the Distance. Pretty easy rule set it restrict you to only select ranged attackers.

Ruleset

Only ranged monster may be selected
Official ruleset information from splinterlands: List-of-In-Game-Rulesets

Abilities Synergies / Strategy

Headwinds - With this rule set it is useful to use headwinds which give all ranged monster -1 attack.

Return Fire - also with only ranged attack monster this return fire
As far a know there are currently no ranged monsters that have return fire, i do not know any if you do let me know
Close range - important in this rule set to be able to fire in the first position.

Protect - because there are no magic monster you benefit maximal with the extra armor.

Four summoners that really shines with this rule set:

Avoid

Avoid monsters with void or magic reflect there is no change there are magic monsters:

This is the only monster with void and ranged, this is still a useful monster because of the closed range and high health

Example battle

Lets have a look at a battle with Going to Distance rule set.

Strategy

Nice high mana battle then again the little league rule set causing problems. And then a very nice combo Going the Distance rule set with Fire & Regret 🤣, very cruel. Lucky my opponent has the same rule sets.
Not ably to select Quix the Devious unfortunately. Becuase of the fire and regret rule set I do not chose for the +1 ranged of General Sloan. Instead I chose Thaddius Brood with the -1 health

Rulesets

Fire & Regret:
All monsters gain the return fire ability. When hit with a Ranged attack, Monsters with Return Fire will return reduced damage back to their attacker.
Damage returned is equal to damage of attacker divided by 2, rounded up.

Going the Distance:
This week battle secret. Only ranged monster may be selected.

Little League:
Only monsters and summoners with a mana cost of 4 or less may be selected.

The Lineup

Summoner

CardReason
As explained because of the fire and regret rule set i chose the -1 health of Thaddius Brood

Monsters Lineup

#1#2#3#4#5#6

Venari Marksrat (lvl 1)
Intentionally in the front to be slaughtered so it gives the second monster and extra health. the extra attack is worthless in this case because when Tower Griffon is in the front it cannot attack, then it serves as an meat shield.

Tower Griffin (lvl 1)
Relative high health to be an buffer to the other monsters and with the extra health it should take some punches.

Ravenhood Warden (lvl 5)
Important monster in this lineup with the protect ability so all monster have 2 extra armor. And with 2 damage also decend

Dark Astronomer (lvl 1)
2 damage monster nothing special unfortunately low speed so it probably attack last.

Weirding Warrior (lvl 5)
Another important monster in this setup because of the scatter and definitely the amplify. The scattershot will take down the armor of one monster. And the amplify does +1 damage in combination with the fire and regret + going the distance rule set guarantied success.

Soul Strangler (lvl 8)
Last but not least the heavy hitter still to be careful with that because the return fire its damage return is divided by 2 so this will also do 2 damage in return.

Rounds

Start :

That is an coincidence all ranged monsters 🤣. Nice placing of his Venari Marksrat but his is leveled up not sure if that is a benefit. The rest of his setup is good. I like the high health monster and all have +1 health of Tarsa. My extra armor is an very important hope that will shift the battle towards me.
This will be a fun and quick match the return fire in combination with the ranged monsters

Round 1:

image.png
The slaughtering has begun 🤣. On both side already some monsters killed.
The extra armor is my life line and by this I will take the win imo.

Round 2:

The amplify skill is hurting my opponent hard 3 damage against scavo firebolt killing itself
And just last hit was a miss else it was a very quick battle now just one more round.
Also not because my opponent has leveled up his Venari Marksrat it is still alive therefor his martyr was not trigger which is why this monster is good without is just meh.

Round 3:

There it is the last kill.

Conclusion

Very nice battle to see the combination with going the distance + fire and regret played with amplify and protect is an very good / strong combo imho.
