Lore

River Nymphs inhabit the rivers of the Splinterlands. Shy and reclusive, they usually remain hidden beneath the water's surface. However, they have a strong respect for life, and they have been known to aid those in need. They are also fiercely protective of their homes and will defend it if it is threatened. Card Review

Prons

  • Magic damage can directly get past most armors, dealing direct damage to the health of the opponent.

  • Cleanse ability will remove any negative status effect of the monster in the 1st position.

  • River Nymph's Amplify will help to increase the damage of reflected damage while Swiftness is an excellent support ability that increases the speed of all allied monsters.

Cons

  • Having a low health, River Nymph is susceptible from Opportunity attacks.

  • Using a River Nymph with Swiftness makes it very disadvantageous on Reverse Speed rule set.

Battle Phase

image.png

For this battle, we have Armored Up rule set where all monsters get additional monsters and Briar Patch which gives Thorns ability to all monsters so I thought that my opponent will avoid using melee monsters so it will be either magic, range or a combination of both that my opponent will use. Thinking of this, I choose the following line- up

  • The Summoner Quix the Devious because it reduce the range attack of all opponent monsters by -1 as well as it's speed

  • I use Baakjira for my tank as it has huge health with the ability to Heal itself and has Void to reduce the damage from magic attacks. As a support, it provides Slow that reduces the speed of all opponent monsters and Strengthen will increase the health of all my monsters.

  • For the 2nd Position, I use the 0- mana Torrential Fiend which have the Headwinds to further reduce the range damage of my opponent.

  • The 3rd position, I place River Nymph as my only magic card that will serve as tertiary tank as it is a monster that can attack at the 1st position which as a support card can use Cleanse if ever my tank recieves negative status and also increases the team's overall speed with Swiftness.

  • For my 4th card, I use Angelic Mandarin because it has the Silence which further reduce the magic attack of the opponent together with Baakjira and it has Triage that will restore the health of back- line monsters in case that there are Snipe or Scattershot attacks.

  • On the 5th position, I use Merdhampir as the Cripple will be helpful to reduce the health of the opponent monster even if they still have armors and might as well Life Leach from it. The Snare would also help to prevent monsters with Flying or Dodge from evading attacks.

  • The last member of my team will be Naga Assasin that provides another Swiftness but also the Backfire can deal some damage back in the case that the opponent still uses some melee Sneak monsters and it dodges them.

image.png

On the first round, every monster was still on play an no significant damage has been done but it might seem like I was at a disadvantage as my Baakjira is down to only 12 health while the opponent still have 16. We can also see that with the status de- buffs all the opponent's range monster only have 1 range thanks to the combination of Quix the Devious and Torrential Fiend and I am 2 speed ahead of my opponent with the double Swiftness..

image.png

Fast Forward to round 5, we can see that the opponent has lose their Baakjira and Tide Biter now occupies the 1st position. While it has Reflection Shield that makes it immune from Thorns, it was not immune from attacks and magic attack from River Nymph causes it to lose 2 health.

image.png

Following the lose of the opponent's Baakjira on round 5, Tide Biter was defeated by River Nymph at round 6 while the Baakjira of my team has slowly recovering the damage that has been dealt by the opponent from previous rounds.

image.png

On round 7, The opponent also looses their Kelp Initiate. Their Merdhampir has gained a decent amount of health through Life Leech but as a range monster, it cannot attack at the first position.

image.png

Skipping round 8, We go with round 9 where the opponent's Merdhampir was defeated and it was only Igor Darkspear that can attack. Xenith Archer now occupies the 1st position.

image.png

At round 10, Xenith Archer has been defeated and the opponent only has Igor Darkspear which cannot attack anymore. Baakjira that was previously stunned has been Cleanse by River Nymph and has now restored its current max health that was reduced to 11 because of Cripple but remains very huge.

image.png

With no way to fight back, the round ends at 11 where almost no damage has been done to me. A complete victory.

Battle Recap

Here is a replay of the battle which at you can watch at 3speak or in Splinterlands.

water.png

Did your Strategy Work?

My strategy this time works really well as I reduced the range damage of my opponent by -2 and boost the speed of my team by +2 with the help of River Nymph. In case that the opponent uses magic then his fate is also sealed because of the Void and Silence. One of my fear is that the opponent uses Doctor Blight another reason why I use River Nymph because it can Cleanse it's Poison and Affliction but it did not happen on this battle.

water.png

Do You Like River Nymph

Despite the low health of River Nymph, it is rather one of my most liked cards for low mana matches as it is during this battles where Doctor Blight can be used and it will help to remove any negative status for my tank.

water.png

What will you try differently next time?

Summoners

Magic Reflect

Return Fire

Thorns

On a different occasion, I would like to try using River Nymph with boosted magic damage and with a magic team. For low mana, I will use the summoner Alric Stormbringer or Delwyn Dragonscale and when I have more mana allowance will I use Valnamor or Archmage Arius and the use of Dragon summoners will give me more card options and battle strategies. Using Lir Deepswimmer can also be a good choice since it has the Return Fire ability that will also prove effective to my previous match as my opponent uses lots of range monsters.

On terms of monster line- up the use of monsters with abilities that reflected attacks like Magic Reflect, Return Fire and Thorns will allow River Nymph to maximize the use of Amplify which will increase the damage output of the said abilities.
