Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow my posts.

If you only have a day to spare in Nairobi don't waste it in the dirty polluted city, instead go to visit the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, and the close by giraffe center.
David Sheldrick was a warden in Tsavo National Park where he fought to protect elephants from local poachers. He then set up the elephant orphanage.
To date they have rescued over 200 orphaned and endangered elephants and helped rehabilitate them and release them back into Tsavo national park.

For 5 dollars you can visit the orphanage around feeding time when all the baby elephants come out to be fed by the rangers.
We got to touch and interact with the elephants and to hear about the conservation efforts, and learn what they are trying to achieve with the elephant orphanage.
Later in the day we visited the giraffe center. Whilst the elephant centre is focused around conservation, the giraffe center felt more of a tourist experience. Although it feels weird to feed giraffes they were healthy and living in a large wilderness, and seemed happy.
We had to stand on a huge platform to be at the right height to feed these massive animals.
