The park is home to the Hanoi Zoo, a large lake and great walking paths. It used to be known as Bachthao Gardens and is more often than not these days simply referred to as Hanoi Zoo. It houses some 800 animals covering about 90 spaces of big cat,monkeys and reptiles. The lake has pedalos which are very popular with local families.
The park is working hard to improve facilities and to learn new techniques for animal conservation. It aims to become a world class facility. It is currently involved in conservation and breeding programmes to help animals indigenous to Vietnam as well as from around the globe.
The animals are house throughout the whole park area making this a very pleasant place to stroll around, enjoying the green space. Exhibits are explained in Vietnamese, English and French. The star of the show here is Lam Nhi, a tiger that was reduced from poachers. The name means baby of the forest and was chosen from 10,000 entrants after a competition was held for schoolchildren.
