Johnny Hodges - Jazz saxophonist (1906-1970)

Today I introduce with Johnny Hodges a musician who has influenced the classical Jazz of the swing era like no other with his unique sound. His tone is full of richness, the vibrato is almost obtrusively strong, he draws the notes far beyond the normal measure and thus forms dreamy, sensual melodies of great emotionality.

At the age of 21, he joined the orchestra of Duke Ellington and remained the leading voice in his saxophone section except for a small span in the 1950s until his death. Numerous pieces that Duke has written especially for him are all classic jazz standards. I invite you to immerse yourself to the time of swing, have fun!

Mit Johnny Hodges stelle ich heute einen Musiker vor, der mit seinem einzigartigen Sound den klassischen Jazz der Swing Aera wie kein anderer beeinflusst hat. Sein Ton ist von großer Fülle, das Vibrato fast schon aufdringlich stark, die Töne zieht er weit über das normale Maß hinaus und bildet damit träumerische, sinnliche Melodien von großer Emotionalität.

Mit 21 jahren trat er dem Orchester von Duke Ellington bei und blieb bis auf eine kleine Spanne in den 50'er Jahren bis zu seinem Tode die führende Stimme in dessen Saxophonsatz.
